Macon County Democratic Party
Celebrates Christmas
The Macon County Democratic Party met for its December
meeting at La Tia’s where a wonderful meal was served to approximately 50
attendees. The meeting was called to order by Chairman George McCrary. Joe
Hackett presented the invocation and Carolyn Whitaker led the group in the
Pledge to the Flag. Special guests present were Gray Sasser, Chairman of
the Tennessee Democratic Party and Mike Terry, Liaison to Congressman Bart
Gordon. Both guests addressed the group in attendance. Chairman Sasser
recognized and praised David Harper for his work as a member of the
Executive Committee of the TN Democratic Party. Gayla Hendrix, a teacher
and law student from Dekalb County, spoke briefly to the group and
indicated her interest in pursuing the office of State Representative for
the 40th District. Several local elected officials including County Mayor
Shelvy Linville, Sheriff Mark Gammons, Circuit Court Clerk Rick Gann, Road
Supervisor Chop Porter, Administrator of Elections Diane Cline, Election
Commission Chair Henry Polston and member GeorgiaAnn Boles, Red Boiling
Springs City Councilman Ray Bilbrey, Commissioners Billy West, David
Crowder and Jeff Hughes attended the dinner and enjoyed fellowship and
fine food. Jeff Hughes, candidate for Tax Assessor, Chop Porter and Lonnie
Jones, candidates for Road Supervisor made remarks and asked the attendees
for their vote and support.
Red Waldrop chaired the effort to collect non-perishable food for
distribution to the less fortunate. Boxes were placed in Citizens Bank,
Macon Bank and Trust, Macon County Justice Center and the Macon County
Courthouse for the collection of food items. Wal-Mart, Valu Plus, Save A
Lot, Food Town, and Reese’s Piggly Wiggly were generous donors along with
members of the Macon County Democratic Party who brought their items to
the meeting. The boxes were filled and emptied several times and all
donated food items were given to the Macon County Sheriff’s Department for
distribution. The Macon County Democratic Party appreciates the generosity
of the citizens of Macon County in this effort.
American Flags were purchased by the Macon County Democratic Party and
donated to the Macon County School System. Darrell Law, Director of
Schools, was present at the event to accept the flags. In his remarks he
expressed gratitude to the Party and appreciation for the assistance of
Congressman Gordon and others to the school system of Macon County.
The next meeting of the Macon County Democratic Party will be Thursday,
January 3, 2008, Macon County Justice Center at 6 PM. All Democrats and
other interested persons are invited to attend.
