Minutes from October 11, 2007
Macon County Democratic Party
The Macon County Democratic Party met on October 11, 2007, 7 PM, with
George McCrary, Chairman, presiding.
Following invocation and the Pledge to the Flag, the chair welcomed Hix
Jones.
The minutes of the September 6 meeting were read and accepted.
The treasurer reported a balance on hand of $2,198.20.
The group voted to send flowers for the funeral of Ruby Gordon Stinson.
David Harper discussed the need to:
Secure
delegate selection, two males and three females, for the primary
The
date for the local convention to select delegates is February 9, 2008
The
district convention is February 23, 2008 in Murfreesboro or Gallatin
David
Harper announced his candidacy to be a delegate
Maintain
a Democrat as a State Representative and need to elect a Democratic State
Senator
The discussion then turned to whether or not to continue the Website.
The consensus was to continue and to create a newsletter in an effort to
reach more voters with our message.
The need for templates for buttons was discussed.
The chair announced that Justin Walling, assistant to Cong. Lincoln
Davis, is the new Chair of Chairs for the State of TN.
Doug Worsham announced that the Christmas Dinner would be at La Tia’s
Restaurant. The cost would be $12.50. He asked everyone to RSVP to George
McCrary. The dinner will be in the back room and will be a traditional
meal with ham, turkey and all the trimmings. Mr. McCrary announced that
Gray Sasser, Chairman of the TN Democratic Party, and Mike Terry, Liaison
to Cong. Gordon would attend the dinner. Rep. Frank Buck was also invited.
The dinner will be at 6 PM on December 6.
It was decided that the Bean Supper would be on April 19, 2008 at the
Sally Wells Building at 5 PM. Linda Ward and Rosie Day will coordinate
food. David Presley would cook beans.
David Crowder will lead the planning session for the Veterans Day
Parade float at the next meeting on November 1. Work on the float will be
at David’s shop.
The group discussed the dismissal of school for a variety of Holidays
but not for Veterans’ Day. David Harper moved and David Presley seconded
that the Democratic Party file an action plan with the Macon County School
Board requesting that schools participate in the Veterans’ Day Parade.
Motion passed. David Crowder, David Harper and Red Waldrop were to lead
the appearance before the School Board.
The next meeting will be November 1, 2007, Justice Center, 7 PM.
